Children were used to get into places where adults could not reach, such as crawling under weaving looms in factories to rethread them or to clean out fluff.
But as the machines were still working there was great danger here.
Children were also used to do simple jobs in brickworks, in mines, in stoking boilers in factories, cleaning out chimneys and so on.
