Q1: What was a working day like for a child in early Victorian times?

[Answer]

A child would work at least a twelve hour day – and this meant twelve working hours, not including short breaks for meals.

They might begin at five or six in the morning after sleeping on a hard bed in a damp and cold room with many other members of their family. Then they had to walk to the factory. They must not be late or they would be fined.

They would have just half an hour for lunch – and they mostly had to bring their own.
