Q1: Explain why power supplies are still like any other electrical circuit, but on a bigger scale.

Mains electricity is made, or generated, in a power station, usually by burning coal, oil or gas.

Electricity can be carried much more easily for long distances if it is at a high voltage (400,000 volts).

In the country it is carried in cables strung between tall pylons; in cities it is carried in cables below the streets. Near to homes it is stepped down to the 240V we need.
