Q1: How do we damp sounds down?

We know that sounds become quieter if we can soak them up. One term for this is damping sounds.

The idea is to make the sound vibrations smaller.

Dampers – things that are attached to vibrating objects to stop them vibrating – can make the sound quieter by soaking up some of the energy in the sound. All of the steel panels in a car are fitted with dampers, for example.
