Although we mainly want to keep a good grip between surfaces, there are some places, such as on a playground slide, where we want the surfaces to be as slippery as possible.
One way to do this is to make the surface as smooth as possible, and so get rid of bumps and pits.
Or you can fill up the pits by using a polish or wax. Skiers do this.
