Q1: What were conditions like?

[Answer]

When you look around the Golden Hind, you will see that the space was small and men lived for months at a time all crammed together.

Food was poor and went mouldy. They usually took some live animals to slaughter on the way, but these were soon used up. There was no fresh fruit and so the men often got a disease called scurvy.

Most sailors used a spare hammock to sleep in. When one watch came off they used the hammocks the ongoing watch had used.
