Q1: What was the purpose of Hadrian's Wall?

[Answer]

As part of their struggle to defend land in Scotland, the Romans built two walls from east to west coasts. They were among the largest structures the Romans built anywhere in their empire.

By trying to occupy Scotland, the Romans overstretched themselves. In AD 120 emperor Hadrian decided to build a massive stone wall across what is now northern England.

Later, in AD 140, emperor Antoninus Pius built another wall between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
