Q1: Why did people have to leave Britain from time to time?

[Answer]

The earliest people like 'Upright Man' ate fruit and nuts and hunted. They also chipped away at flints to make sharp-edged stone axes which they used to cut up their prey.

As it happened, these ancient people arrived in Britain at a time called the Ice Age. Each time the ice spread south it forced people to abandon Britain. About 100,000 years ago another group of such people – called 'Neaderthal Man' arrived. However, although these people were human, they were not our direct ancestors.
