Imagine seeing the first ever wave of bombers arriving over London at about four o’clock in the afternoon of 7 September 1940. It must have been a very frightening sight.
There were 340 bombers protected by 600 fighters. Their target was the docks of London and their purpose was to drop hundreds of fire bombs and set the docks ablaze.
There were so many planes lining up to bomb London that it took them two hours to drop their bombs.
