Germany took over Austria in 1938, then Czechoslovakia.

The British Prime Minister flew to Germany to try to get Hitler not to invade any other country.

Germany did not want to go to war with Britain, but Britain (and France) had an agreement with Poland that if Poland were attacked, Britain and France would go to war.

On September 3rd 1939 Germany invaded Poland and so Britain was forced into war.
