Q: What did satellites let people do?

In the 1960s and 70s, when people first knew of satellites in space, they were called the 'spies in the sky' because they were used by the military. But by the 1980s a quite new type of satellite – a communications satellite – had been launched that changed the way people did things quite dramatically.

These stayed in the same place all the time and were used to let people talk to one another across the world. They also beamed live events across the globe and helped in weather forecasting.
