Q: How did television affect shopping?

Wireless (which we now call radio) changed lives before the war because it brought news to every home as it happened. By the 1950s television was showing people what other people's lives looked like as well.

Once people could see the world around them live on TV, they began to worry about buying modern fashions and 'keeping up with the Jones's' became more and more important. It was the start of the 'consumer society'.
