When the weather is calm and settled, seaside weather is often very different from weather just a short distance inland. This is due to breezes blowing on and off the shore.
The sea changes temperature very slowly through the seasons and does not heat up and cool down each day like the land. So, on a summer's day the sea is cooler than the land.
The hot land warms the air and the warm air rises. This draws in cool air from the sea a welcome cooling breeze on a hot summer's day.
