Some plants adapt by releasing seeds then dying back during a long dry spell. When rain falls and the seeds get wet they immediately begin to grow. Some plants grow even when it is dry. To keep as much moisture as possible these plants have small, rubbery leaves or thick stems (like a cactus).
Many animals only come out at night because then it is cooler. Some animals get all the moisture they need from the plants they eat. Others, like the camel, have ways of storing huge amounts of water.
