Rainforests are a mixture of trees all jumbled up. It is not actually very efficient logging the valuable ones. To get to them, many trees that are not valuable are cut down and left to rot.
But the valuable trees can be grown more efficiently by planting them in plantations. This uses up less forest and means that we can still use the wood – it just does not have to come from old rainforests.
The only things made of tropical woods you should buy are those grown in managed forests.
