Q1: How does the molten rock get to the surface to make volcanoes?

[Answer]

All of the material from a volcano - explosive gases, ash, volcanic bombs and lava, are part of the same source - liquid rock deep within the Earth. Scientists call this deep molten rock magma.

This molten rock comes from below the hard, cold surface of the Earth - the crust - on which we live. For, just below the crust the Earth is not solid at all, but is continually on the move.
