Remember that all living things ultimately depend on plants for food. One of the largest kinds of plant are trees and they make up forests in many parts of the world. The trees are home to tiny animals such as insects as well as large ones such as deer.
There are two kinds of forest: broadleaved woodland (where the trees have large flat leaves) and coniferous woodland (trees that have cones and needles). If we cut them down, many animals lose their food.
