who spent part of his happy childhood as a cowherd. So, to feed a cow or care for a cow is a way of worshipping Krishna.
In ancient times, and for rural families today, cows are very important. They provide a lot for families, including milk, milk products, labour and dung (used as fuel). Because a cow gives all its possessions for the benefit
of others, they were thought of as one of the most important parts of the family. These

Hinduism also teaches that duty and proper behaviour are important in helping us to reach moksha. So, showing respect to your family and treating others with kindness is another part of being Hindu that is practised everyday and all the time.
Personal gods and goddesses
Many families have household shrines. Although children grow up following family beliefs, they are encouraged as young adults to make their own choices of which gods or goddesses they find personally inspiring. So, the household shrine may contain many murtis, or there may be several small individual shrines in one household.
