This is Blackpool, Britain’s most famous beach. But the points of view shown here could be for any coastal resort in the world.
☛The rambler’s point of view:
“I want to enjoy all the coastal views and follow a coastal footpath. I want everyone to be able to walk along the coast. I don’t think it is right that any of it should be private land. The coast belongs to all of the people in the country, not just a rich few.“
☛ The retired couple’s point of view: “We have saved up all our working lives and now we want to retire by the sea. We don’t want a house a kilometre from the sea – we want a house by the sea.“
☛The builder’s point of view: “I have lots of customers who want houses and have the money to buy them. I don’t see that the coast is any different. I just want a strip along the sea front, that’s all.“
☛ The conservationist’s point of view:
“This coast is home to millions of wild creatures. Birds nest on the cliffs and beaches, and rare plants grow there, too. They have a right to live. It is important to conserve the coast and keep it natural and wild. It is also important to make some parts of it difficult to get to. This will mean that it is quiet and birds and other animals aren’t frightened off.“
