What is an appliance? An appliance is a piece of equipment that uses electricity, usually for a task around the home.

These are appliances.

An appliance is a power device that is intended to apply electricity to do a labour-saving job. The word is mostly used for large appliances including freezers and washing machines. Sometimes people also call such items as irons and toasters small appliances.



All appliances will wear out or break down in time. Those with moving parts tend to break down soonest. Then there are effects due to water, and other problems as shown in the video below.
