Q1: How does light always travel?

[Answer]

Our eyes are not like torches, sending out light so that we can see. It's the other way around. Our eyes receive light. If no light entered our eyes, we could not see.

Light always travels from a source (the Sun, a table lamp, light bounced off a wall and so on) in straight lines.

A narrow band of light is called a beam. A very narrow beam is called a ray of light.
