Balance a spoon on your finger. Did you wonder why the spoon balances only when the bowl end is close to your finger?

Topic 4 may have helped you. When the spoon is in balance, the forces pulling down on one side must be equal to the forces pulling down on the other. Your finger is a pivot and the place of balance is called the centre of gravity.
