Just as a solid turns into a liquid when it is heated, so a liquid turns into a gas when it is heated even more.

For example, if we leave water in a warm room it quickly disappears. The liquid has turned into a colourless gas, so the water that was in the bowl is now in the air.

We use the word evaporation for this slow change from a liquid to a gas.
