Now we know there are three ways in which heat can travel – conduction, convection and radiation – we can begin to control how heat moves, such as by designing things that keep their contents warm.
A simple tea or egg cosy keeps things warm for a while, but the materials are not good insulators and so do not work well.
A stay-hot flask is better because it tries to stop all three kinds of heat flow.
