The warmth you feel from the Sun or from a fire is the third way of transferring heat.

The fact that we can feel the warmth of the Sun tells us that this kind of heat can be transferred without things touching. It is called radiation.

Radiation heat travels out from a hot object in straight lines, which is why it feels warmer in the sunshine and cooler in the shade.
