Take a handful of soil and put it in a tall jar.

Then add water to near the top and swirl it around.

The water will go muddy. That is the clay.

Look at the bottom of the jar.

See the biggest (and heaviest) pieces settle out first, then the smaller and smaller pieces settle out on top as layers.

The clay will not settle out for many days.
