You can tell if rocks are hard or soft without ever seeing them!
The diagram shows how it's done. The hard rocks wear away more slowly than the soft rocks and so stand up as ridges in the land.
The soft rocks wear away and make low-lying areas, valleys.
This only works for sloping rocks. Why doesn't it work for flat rocks?
