Different conditions suit different types of plant, as you can see in the diagram.
Near the pole it is cold and only plants with built-in antifreeze can live. They all grow close to the ground.
In the deserts the only plants are those that can store water or which have deep roots.
In places with lots of rain many plants can grow, including trees.
