Q1: What happens to a plant when the soil dries up?

[Answer]

Plants, like us, are mostly water. Water is what fills up the plant's tissues and gives it its shape.

Plants suck up their water from the soil and use it to pump up their stems and leaves. We call this watery liquid sap.

They also get liquid nourishment through the water in the soil.

If a soil dries out, plants cannot pump the water they need and they droop (or wilt) and then die.
