When you think of mountains, you may think of cold and snow. Plants have to survive both of these. But it is also very windy on a mountain, and the ground is stony, so it can actually be quite dry in the soil.
So mountain plants have lots of challenges. The high mountain plants are called alpines and they grow slowly year after year huddled close to the ground.
