Inside every seed a tiny plant forms.
The parent plant also sets up a food store for the tiny plant in the seed and covers them both in a protective seed coat. Finally the parent plant draws most of the water out of the seed before it lets it go.
When the seed lands on warm, moist soil, it starts to take in water again and swell. This is the first stage of sprouting.
