Q1: What happens in a leaf?

[Answer]

Leaves use sunlight as the energy to make new tissue. It is called photosynthesis.

The substance that absorbs the sunlight is the little green speck in each leaf called chlorophyll. When leaves die, the chlorophyll disappears and the leaves become brown.

The leaf builds up (or makes) food by using light, water and minerals from the soil and carbon dioxide gas from the air.
