Plants are made of cells. These are like tiny boxes about one tenth of a millimetre across.

When you look at them under a microscope you see the cell wall as a thick line which runs all around the cell. The cell wall is made of a substance called cellulose. It gives the cell support.

Leaves are made of different shapes of cells as you can see in this diagram.
