Q1: Why were boats important?

[Answer]

The Vikings were village people. Like all other people, they needed water, food and fuel. They needed materials to make homes and clothes. They also needed to live together to protect themselves from wild animals – and any attack from neighbouring tribes.

But as they were mostly seafaring people, boats also had an important place in village life.

The main buildings were longhouses and each might have had a small fence to keep in animals.
