Q1: How did the Vikings travel when they went into battle – using sails or oars?

[Answer]

The Vikings were a seafaring people.

Most of their villages were by the sea and the easiest way to travel was by boat.

The Vikings used a long ship with a flat bottom and a sail. In calm water, or when going into battle, the sail was furled and oars used instead.

This kind of ship is called a longship.
