But... for the American Indians, it was the beginning of the end. After Lewis and Clark would come settlers and the army to push the American Indians off of their land.
Of course, in the east this was already happening, and so Lewis and Clark did not start anything new. They just allowed European-American settlement to happen faster than otherwise.
Some of the tribes the expedition met would be almost completely extinct just thirty years later. Today, many American Indians look on the Corps of Discovery as the beginning of the end of their way of life.
