Towns had changed a lot during Tudor times. They had also become more crowded.

Whereas early Tudor towns were like large villages, later Tudor towns were crowded, bustling places.

Merchants and others had become more wealthy and rebuilt their houses. The poor, however, were crammed into badly built houses out of sight in side alleys.
