Q1: What was important in deciding where to place an Anglo-Saxon village?

[Answer]

The Anglo-Saxons were village people. Like all other people, they needed water, food and fuel. They needed materials to make homes and clothes. They also needed to live together to protect themselves from wild animals – and any attack from neighbouring tribes.

Water came from a river or a spring, and with more effort from a well. But if they chose to be near a river they had to be careful not to be on land that flooded.
