Q1: Why do Anglo-Saxon times begin about AD 450?

[Answer]

At the end of Roman times, there were probably no more than 100,000 British in 'England' (there are now 50 million!). So there was plenty of unused land.

Soon after the Romans left Britain, more and more tribes sailed from northwestern Europe looking for new lands in England. This began about AD 450 and that is why this date marks the beginning of Anglo-Saxon times.
