Q1: What did the Romans do for lighting?

[Answer]

Romans had to find a way of lighting their homes at night just as we do.

They could have used the light from a fire (as the British did), but they mostly chose to use small oil lamps because this gave them the chance to use parts of the house away from the fire.

The oil lamps, which were often decorated, were placed around the house and refilled by slaves.
