The ancient Greeks fought many battles with the Persians, but they also fought with one another for control of Greece.
The main time of city battles was called the Peloponnesian wars. It involved all cities, lead to the defeat of Athens by Sparta, and weakened Sparta so much that they were never powerful again.
It left the way open to King Philip of Macedonia to take over all of Greece. His son was Alexander.
