Q1: What is the name we use for the most important capital of ancient Egypt?

[Answer]

The capital of ancient Egypt for many centuries was a place near modern Luxor. The ancient Greeks called it Thebes when they arrived and this is the name we use today.

There are more remains near here than anywhere else. This section looks at the temples at Luxor and nearby Karnak which were joined by an avenue of sphinxes. The following screen looks at the Valley of the Kings area.
