Thutmose III was called Djehutymes III in Egyptian, but we now call him by his Greek name Thutmose (born of the god Thoth). Another spelling is Thutmosis.

Because Hatshepsut was so powerful, Thutmose had to keep a low profile for many years. He was probably her foreign general in command and he became very experienced in battles.

Thutmose may have led a revolt against Hatshepsut or she may simply have died, we do not know. But we do know he eventually became ruler.

In his later years he had Hatshepsut's name removed from monuments, but as he did not do this for many years, he might have been encouraged to do it for political reasons, not hatred of his step-mother.
