Djoser's Step Pyramid is the first tomb in Egypt to be built entirely of stone. But the steps could all be seen. Was it possible to build a pyramid without steps, making an exact smooth-sided shape?
Near to the Step Pyramid we see the world's first smooth-sided pyramid. It was much steeper than the Step Pyramid. Too steep, in fact, so to stop it collapsing the upper part was built at a gentler angle.
