Q: Why did Margaret Thatcher become prime minister?

Because of the strikes in the 1970s, the Labour Party was unpopular. In 1979 there was a general election and it was won by the Conservative Party. As a result, Margaret Thatcher, as leader of the Conservatives, became the first woman prime minister in history.

When she arrived at 10, Downing Street she read a statement in which she promised to try to restore peace and harmony within the country. For all kinds of reasons, it was not going to work out like that.
