Just after the end of the war, some very important changes took place. Many babies were born (the baby boom). The way schools were organised was changed. Seeing a doctor or going to hospital became free. But it was still a time of hardship and rationing. Many houses had to be rebuilt and prefabs were put up. Then the first new-colony workers arrived to help rebuild Britain. Most of this took place in just 3 years after the end of the war.

Now find out about the 1950s in the next section.
