After the war was over, another big change began, although it started with just one unnoticed ship. On June 22, 1948, a group of Jamaicans arrived on the ship called Empire Windrush to help to rebuild war-torn Britain.
They were the first of many people who were to come from the 'new colonies'. Most only intended to get some money and then go back home. In fact, few returned to Jamaica, but made their home here. It was the start of a new multicultural Britain.
