In the 1920s and 30s people were getting over the dreadful results of the First World War.
There were great changes in the way people lived brought on by new inventions. The most important change was the use of electricity. But while jobs to make the new goods came to the South, in the coalfield areas of the North many people suffered because fewer of the goods made in this region were needed.
