If you look down into one of the many holes that are being dug in our roads, you will see cables and pipes galore.
The biggest pipes are those that carry away our waste water. There may be two of them - one for waste water from our houses - we call this one a sewer - and one for the rainwater that we want to carry away from our streets - we call this one a drain (or stormwater drain).
