groundwater

The water that is stored and which flows in underground rocks.

In some aquifers, such as limestone, water literally pours through the gaps between the rocks. In others it seeps through the pores

Rocks that can store and transmit large amounts of water are called aquifers.

Groundwater is also known as artesian water. It is a particularly important source of water in dry areas, but is exploited in all parts of the world.
